newsletter #62 -- happiness is local corn & homemade cookies

Hey Everyone,

If we hadn't run out of celebratory beverages at our annual family BBQ, we'd definitely be drinking the left-overs today.

Yes, we're happy today because after months of anticipation and arguments over harvest projections and the benefits of a month-long rain, it's time for our sweet, little babies to be introduced to the world (and to some butter and salt).

That's right. Today, our local corn babies are ready.

So, there's joy in b.good land because native corn has been harvested at Dick's Market Garden, the local, family farm that's been growing our "seasonal veggies" all spring and summer. And that means we're grilling beautiful, buttery corn-cobs today. (We're so excited we even made this little video tribute to our corn.)

Normally, a new product or menu change sets us into screaming fits, verbal assaults, and physical violence. (Once, Anthony even choked Chef Tony against the fridge because he wanted to change the spices in our turkey burger. That was not a nice day in b.good land. That was a bad day and wrong. It is wrong to choke people.)

But, the thought of serving sweet, local corn will always make us feel happy.

And so does the thought of serving Chef Tony's new chocolate-chip cookies. They're ready today and they're made them with "real", all-natural ingredients like raw turbinado sugar, whole wheat flour, and whole wheat oats.

Since we want to make sure our family is happy like us, we're giving our kinfolk those new oatmeal-chocolate-chip cookies for free all day long.

Just print out this email (or show it to us on your cell phone), visit us anytime today, July 23rd, and eat a free oatmeal-chocolate chip cookie.

No copies or forwards. Violators aren't just subject to paying for a cookie. They're subject to Dick, the founder and namesake of the local, family farm that grows our "seasonal veggies". Believe us when we warn you that a free cookie (even one made with turbinado sugar and whole wheat flour) isn't worth testing a man who's spent the last 65 years sowing the hard land of western Massachusetts. Dick will be taking out any punk with the onions to try to exploit our love for family.

As always, if you know anyone who likes corn or cookies or anyone else who wants to be loved like family, forward this and tell them to join ours.

Anthony & Jon

P.S. While we always ask you to come see us, now we're asking if you'd like us to come see you. Just tell us why Josias should grind, pack, and grill burgers at your place for a summer night's cookout for you and your friends. Like we do every summer, we'll bring the fresh steaks and electric grinder to the house of a lucky family member. (To understand just how special an evening could be yours, check out last year's video highlights.)

P.P.S. We're not Dick (he's good), but the veggies on our own little roof-top farm in Brookline are actually growing pretty nicely. And in a couple of weeks, we're hoping to harvest the red lettuce and tomatoes and invite our kin to eat them on top of house-ground steak.

P.P.P.S. We slowed down the real King Louie's tricycle long enough to let him know that he inspired the name of our cart and that we're blending free shakes for him all summer. Now, we can officially call him family.
