newsletter #41 -- newbury street, here we come
Hi Everyone,
We've never climbed a mountain (Anthony doesn't even like to walk up big staircases. He has a bad ankle wah, wah, wah).
But, it's got to feel kind of like when we finally opened our Brookline dream-house last month.
And like mountain climbers, we felt like lifting our arms and screaming in fast-food victory. (Or, at least, going out and getting drunk in a Brighton dive-bar.)
But, we couldn't do any of that since we knew we had to open another one again really soon.
Yes, in just a few weeks, we're unleashing our 4th baby b.good upon the world.
Now, we've almost transformed the old restaurant that we gutted to the studs into a glorious underground burger lair. And as soon as our new, beautiful Newbury Street baby is ready to grind her first burger, you'll be invited to another family-only pre-opening celebration.
And while opening Brookline and breaking ground on Newbury Street are historic events for us, they weren't the only monumental achievements for this small business last month.
That's because in August we went to a place no fast-food business has ever gone to grind, hand-pack, and grill burgers for a member of their family.
We went to the Boston Harbor.
Earlier this summer, we had a contest to bring Tuna our expert grill man to a customer's house to grind, pack, and grill burgers. But, as Anna convinced us in her entry, we couldn't keep Tuna confined to landmasses (even if Tuna had never been on a boat before in his entire life). So, last month, Tuna left shore on the house-boat that Anna and Kevin rented to celebrate their 10th anniversary. We didn't just bring steaks on deck, we brought a video camera so you watch this strange little movie of Big Tuna on the mighty Atlantic.
While Tuna on a ship is pretty amazing, it's not quite as special as the new special we're adding to the menu tomorrow. Our turkey club is a house-ground, hand-packed turkey burger topped with lean, all-natural bacon, lettuce, tomato, and homemade scallion-herb sauce.
And because there've been so many special moments this last month, we're celebrating by giving our family free cousin oliver burgers tomorrow night.
Just bring this newsletter and come see us anytime tomorrow night, Thursday, September 20th, from 5pm to close. (If you come to Brookline, you'll be getting a lot more than a free burger. You'll be getting a look at Ethan Backer's photography collection of the Boston Derby Dames, our first-ever corporate sponsorship. The toughest girls to eat house-ground, hand-packed burgers are opening up their season this Saturday night.)
And when you come for your free cousin oliver, don't forget this newsletter. No copies or forwards. Violators aren't just subject to paying for a burger, they're subject to Andy, our Harvard Square cashier. Andy isn't just working long nights selling burgers to put himself through nursing school, he's also from Canada. Clearly, even if it's house-ground and hand-packed, a free burger isn't worth crossing a young man with that kind of pedigree. Tomorrow night, Andy will be ready if any freeloaders try to take advantage of the love we have for family.
As always, if you know anyone who likes weird stories of a restaurant's quest for fast-food glory or anyone else who just wants to be loved like family, forward them this and tell them to join ours at bgood.com.
Anthony & Jon
P.S. Like we said before, we've expanded our family sign-up so we can give even more good love to our kin (like birthday presents).
P.P.S Family members and Harvard student-triathletes, Chris, Alex, and Christian, sent us this email last winter asking us to sponsor them as they pedaled, stroked, and ran their way to a championship. We promised they'd be eating free burgers for a semester if they brought us home the trophy. Here's what happened.
P.P.P.S Next month is the annual garlicky-green eating world championship. Prepare your esophaguses.
