newsletter #59 -- seasonal veggies, a garden, & grilled chicken
Hey Everyone,
Spring is here and signs of her triumphant comeback are all around us…
Little birds are singing. Pretty flowers are blooming. A crazy burger-delivery guy named Marco is wearing weird shorts-with-tube-socks outfits. And Anthony is getting up at 4 o'clock every morning to buy fresh veggies at the produce docks in Chelsea.
Oh yes, it's spring and it's the perfect time to introduce a new "seasonal vegetable" side to our menu.
We'll rotate the veggies depending on the time of year and what's freshest at the docks every morning. (Today, we're serving grilled asparagus.) During growing seasons here, they'll come from local farms. Other times, they'll be organic.
And while we're serving sides of seasonal veggies, we'll also be trying to grow some of our own. (That's as long as Jardel, our Brookline manager, doesn't fall off the ladder he uses to water the garden on the roof of our Brookline restaurant.)
Yes, we actually have a weird, roof-top garden and we have it because of our b.good family members at Green City Growers. (And since you'll most likely never see it unless you're willing to scale a wall and climb on a strange, Spanish-style roof of a former gas station, we made this video of our garden for you.)
But, as exciting as gardens and seasonal vegetables are, they're not the most important thing we're doing this spring.
And that's because today we're making a menu change that we've debated for a long, long time.
Yes, after over 5 years of hand-cutting, breading, and baking chicken every day, we're grilling our hand-cut, house-marinated chicken breasts.
And since we want our family to be the first to try our grilled chicken sandwiches, we're grilling them up today for you with free fries (or sweet potato fries) and a drink.
To get your free fries (or sweet potato fries) and free drink (fountain or bottled water), just print this out, visit any b.good, AND BUY A CHICKEN SANDWICH anytime today, April 30th.
No copies or forwards. Violators aren't just subject to paying for their combo meal. They're subject to Gabe and Tim, the farmers from Green City Growers who built and maintain our garden. These guys didn't just do all the back-breaking labor (like carry bags of soil up a rickety ladder), they did it all in exchange for free burgers. It's that kind of irrational commitment to house-ground beef that makes them the perfect tag-team to administer beat-downs upon any freeloaders who try to take advantage of our love for family.
As always, if you know anyone who likes weird emails about a company's quest to make fast-food "real" or anyone else who wants to be loved like family, forward this and tell them to join ours.
Anthony & Jon
P.S. It's the kind of thing that we thought was only possible in our dreams. But, a human being actually ran 26.2 miles dressed as a giant hamburger. And since The Boston Globe interviewed him at the finish line, you can witness the fulfillment of this house-ground burger business' wildest fantasy by checking out this little boston.com video.
